The information, first relayed by Israeli media, was confirmed at midday. A spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister’s office declared Monday June 17 that the war cabinet, created after the October 7 attack carried out by the Palestinian movement Hamas in Israel, was dissolved by Benjamin Netanyahu. This announcement comes eight days after the resignation of centrist Benny Gantz from this war cabinet.

Israeli media reported earlier Monday that Benjamin Netanyahu announced the dissolution of this restricted group during a security cabinet meeting on Sunday.

“The war cabinet was a precondition for the creation of this government of national unity”declared David Mencer, one of the spokespersons for the Prime Minister’s office. “With the departure of Benny Gantz from the government, the cabinet is no longer necessary, its functions will be taken over by the security cabinet,” he added during a press briefing. The security cabinet, which includes nine ministers in addition to Benjamin Netanyahu, is now the main body to make decisions relating to the war with Hamas.

According to commentators, this dissolution is also intended to pull the rug out from under the far-right ministers Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich who wanted to participate in the war cabinet since the start of the conflict.
