Benjamin Netanyahu calls Israeli strike on displaced persons camp in Rafah a “tragic incident”

The Israeli Prime Minister specified that an investigation was underway to lift the veil on the circumstances of this strike which left at least 45 dead according to the Palestinian authorities.

The Israeli Prime Minister declared, Monday, May 27, that the Israeli strike which hit a displaced persons camp in Rafah on Sunday was “a tragic incident”. “In Rafah, we evacuated a million residents who were not involved and, despite all efforts, a tragic incident occurred yesterday”declared Benjamin Netanyahu in the Israeli Parliament in front of families of hostages held in the Gaza Strip. “We are investigating what happened and we will draw conclusions”he added.

The UN envoy for the Middle East “asked the Israeli authorities to conduct a full and transparent investigation” on the circumstances of this bombing. He also urged Israel “to take immediate measures to better protect civilians”.

On Sunday, an Israeli airstrike caused a fire in a camp for displaced people in the south of the Gaza Strip, leading, according to the Palestinian authorities, to the death of at least 45 people.
