Benjamin Mendy again in court: the star of the Blues accused of a seventh rape

The nightmare never ends for Benjamin mendy since his arrest last August in England. A true darling of the supporters of the France team, the 27-year-old footballer was often praised for his good humor and the atmosphere he put in the locker room. Winner of the 2018 World Cup with the Blues of Didier Deschamps, the left-back has been playing for Manchester City since 2017. Suspended by his club, his daily life now comes down to his cell in a prison located in Liverpool.

It is this Wednesday, December 22 that the new hearing of Benjamin Mendy in court took place and the situation of the former partner of Griezmann and Mbappé with the Blues worsened. He was charged with a new rape, which now leads to seven counts of rape on four women and one count of sexual assault on a fifth. This seventh rape charge concerns a new complainant, for facts which would have taken place in July of this year.

During this new appearance, Benjamin Mendy remained about 40 minutes in front of the court of the Crown Court of Chester (north-west of England), according to information from AFP. Another man was also present, Louis Saha Matturie, 40, prosecuted for six rapes and one sexual assault between March and August 2021.

The charges against Benjamin Mendy continue to accumulate and the former player, at worst since the start of his detention, is obviously not at the end of his sentences. Placed in pre-trial detention since August 26, the one who has 10 selections with the Blues is awaiting his trial, which was set for January 24, 2022. The facts alleged against him by the young women, including a minor , aged 17, would have taken place over a period extending from March to August 2021.

Benjamin Mendy remains presumed innocent of the facts with which he is accused.
