(Cincinnati) Already crowned champions of the North Section of the American Association, the Cincinnati Bengals will not call on the quarterback Joe Burrow in the last game of the season, Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

The move, announced Wednesday, is meant to ensure Burrow will remain healthy for the first round of the NFL playoffs the following week.

Burrow, a right-hander, is struggling with issues with his right knee and little finger on his right hand. However, he said he would have been able to play this weekend had it been necessary.

Head coach Zac Taylor advised the young quarterback earlier this week that he will not be playing on Sunday.

Meanwhile, running back Joe Mixon and other team starters will be sidelined due to NFL COVID-19 protocols but are expected to be back in time for the playoffs.

The roster also includes defensive end Trey Hendrickson, defensive lineman BJ Hill, center Trey Hopkins, guard Quinton Spain and marauder Vonn Bell.

If these players do not experience any symptoms, their names may be removed from the protocols after five days.

Finally, Taylor said rookie wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase could also enjoy a day off on Sunday.
