(Pittsburgh) Veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s name has been removed from the COVID-19 related list and he will be in his post on Sunday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Steelers (5-3-1) made the move on Saturday, a week after Roethlisberger’s name was placed on the list following a positive coronavirus test.
Steelers executives have clarified that Roethlisberger has passed all the steps required by NFL protocols. He was scheduled to travel to Los Angeles separately on Saturday afternoon.
Roethlisberger did not play last week in a game that ended 16-16 against the Detroit Lions. Roethlisberger had displayed symptoms related to the coronavirus and subsequently tested positive.
He participated in Steelers activities virtually throughout the week, and was in frequent contact with offensive coordinator Matt Canada and quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan.
This is the second time Roethlisberger will start a game after being placed in NFL COVID-19 protocols. As of November 2020, his name was placed in the protocols after he was identified as a close contact.
He had not trained during the week but had played in a 36-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He then threw four touchdown passes and accumulated gains of 333 yards through the air.
