Eighteen years after what everyone thought was the end of their story, the actor and the singer finally got married in Las Vegas on Saturday July 16. Their new married life, at the head of a blended family of 5 children, can officially begin. Let’s hope for the lovebirds that the comedian of Gone Girl don’t fall back into his ways.
Between his first romance with Jennifer Lopez and this surprise wedding, Ben Affleck fell in love with another: Jennifer Garner. The cinema had at the time brought together the two actors on several occasions, in Pearl Harbor, Daredevil and Electra before their marriage in 2005. Three children were born of this union: Violet, 16 years old, Seraphina, 13 years old and Samuel, 10 years old. Despite the perfect family they apparently form with their three darlings, the couple ends up shattered in the greatest discretion.
Ben Affleck suffers from alcoholism. A disease that he had already tried to cure by entering rehab in the early 2000s. If he had found a balance and a healthy daily life with Jennifer Garner, the demons quickly returned, causing the fall of the couple. The actor had himself entrusted it: he is largely responsible for their separation. “I drank normally for a very long time. What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was going badly. It was 2015, 2016. And drinking obviously created more marital problems” he confided to the New York Times.
Despite a trip to rehab, couples therapy and the desire to keep the family afloat, Ben Affleck fails in his fight against addiction: “People who behave compulsively like me feel a permanent discomfort that they try to make go away. We try to feel better by eating, drinking, sleeping, playing or shopping, whatever. But it ends up making life even worse. It becomes a vicious cycle that you cannot break. At least that’s what happened to meBen Affleck is on good terms with his ex-wife and the happiest of men as Jennifer Lopez’s husband. Let’s hope for him that he doesn’t fall back into his ways…
