Bella: new gourmet sandwich shop at Cathcart

(Advice to fans of well-stocked Italian sandwiches. A new counter has just been added to the already rich list of the Cathcart, a bright food court at the foot of Place Ville Marie.) On the menu of the new addition, Bella sandwicheria, installed since last week: a variety of sandwiches as delicious as they are dripping, gargantuan, if you ask us in our humble opinion, all bearing feminine Italian first names. This tribute to mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other great women in their lives is an idea of the owners, to whom we already owe Bossa, another well-established Montreal sandwich shop (rue Masson, rue Wellington and at Time Out Market Montreal ). Here, we wanted to go a step further in quality and refinement, we are told.

To give you an idea, the Giovanna, which we tackled, is composed of a generous portion of porchetta, but also prosciutto, served with smoked caciocavallo, in addition to a nicely spiced olive gremolata. It would have easily fed two hungry people. Note that all sandwiches are also served in a homemade focaccia. For smaller appetites, we suggest the nonna’s salad, or, why not, a nice plate of fritto misto, fried vegetables (artichokes, fennel and zucchini) served with a tasty tonnato sauce. Finally, those with a sweet tooth will be delighted to find the classic Italian dolci, cannoli, tiramisu and other homemade biscotti here. And to wash it all down, a spritz, anyone?

Open every day except Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – until 3 p.m. Monday, and until 10 p.m. Thursday.
