A Ukrainian strike killed 25 people in Belgorod, Russia, on December 30.
Thursday January 4, five days after the bombing, the inhabitants of Belgorod (Russia) mourn their dead. The city is still frozen in fear and trauma. The city was hit right in the heart, during the holidays, when the streets were crowded. The official report shows around a hundred injured and 25 dead. Vladimir, 76, was waiting for the bus with his wife and narrowly escaped death.
Schools will not reopen until January 19
The Ukrainians have made no official comment. During the attack, injured people took refuge in a hairdresser. Traumatized, she recounts how a child died on her sofa. When the killed Ukrainian civilians are mentioned, she takes up the official Russian discourse. “We are not specifically targeting civilians. The difference is that they do it on purpose”, she assures. In Belgorod, the shooting did not stop in this border region. Many businesses remain closed and schools will not reopen before January 19.
