Belgium got out of a bad mess. Led by the Poles after a goal by Robert Lewandowsi (28th), the Red Devils clearly turned the tide (6-1), Wednesday June 8 in Brussels. Swept away by the Netherlands (1-4) on Friday evening, Kevin de Bruyne’s teammates launched their Nations League campaign.

The Manchester City midfielder scored his second goal (59th), after a nice equalizer from Axel Witsel (42nd). Very offensive, the Belgians planted two additional goals by Leandro Trossard (73rd, 80th), including a clear shot in the skylight. Leander Dendoncker scored his first goal in selection (84th), before Ikoma Openda closed the recital (90th + 3) also for his first cap. This convincing success allows Roberto Martinez’s players to overtake their evening opponents and take second place.

The Netherlands retained their place at the top of this group 4, thanks to a narrow victory in Wales (1-2). Teun Koopmeiners (50th) opened the scoring, before Rhys Norrington-Davies equalized (90th +2). The Dutch still found the resources to win on the gong, with a goal from Wout Weghorst (90th + 4). The Welsh, just qualified for the 2022 World Cup but beaten at the opening in Wroclaw, are last in this group.
