Beijing deplores Western calls to cut economic ties with China

The Chinese Prime Minister deplored, Tuesday, June 27, Western calls to reduce dependencies vis-à-vis his country. Li Qiang, who is in charge of economic issues, insisted on the need to “cooperate”the only way according to him to generate growth and prosperity.

His speech, delivered at the opening of the World Economic Forum in Tianjin, comes as the Europeans and the United States seek to diversify their economic partners. “In the West, some people hold up the principle that we should reduce dependency, eradicate the riskssaid the Chinese premier. These two concepts are a false proposition, because with the development of globalization, the world economy has become a community where everyone is intertwined.

“There are still many global challenges and difficulties ahead of us, such as climate change, debt risk, slowing growth, gaps between rich and poor”pointed out Li Qiang. “To solve the series of major problems facing humanity (…) mutual cooperation is necessary”he judged.
