BEI investigation: a woman found dead in her cell in Nunavik

A 39-year-old woman died in her cell after being arrested for a violation of municipal regulations on Friday evening in Nunavik, in the Nord-du-Québec region.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) has launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a woman incarcerated in Puvirnituq, Nunavik.

On Friday evening, around 5:45 p.m., police officers reportedly arrested a 39-year-old woman for a municipal by-law violation. The woman was then taken into custody at the Puvirnituq police station.

Around 7:15 p.m., however, she was found unconscious in her cell. His death was subsequently declared.
