The Rise of the French League of Legends
The French League of Legends scene is on an impressive trajectory, and this year promises to deliver exhilarating moments from the talented players in our league once again. However, before diving into the excitement of the upcoming season, let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of Paramount+ and director Alexandre Pierrin behind the captivating series ‘In the Legend’. This series offers fans an intimate glimpse into the 2024 season, showcasing the players’ journeys in a vibrant and immersive manner. Even for those already aware of the competition’s outcomes, the series provides valuable insights into the players’ daily lives and the inner workings of the premier French teams within the esports ecosystem.
Insights from Director Alexandre Pierrin
Curious about the creative process behind the series, we reached out to Alexandre Pierrin, who generously shared intriguing details about the production. From budget discussions to challenges faced during filming, no subject was off-limits during this enlightening conversation. Interestingly, Pierrin initially declined the project but had a change of heart after experiencing the electrifying atmosphere of LFL Days. This highlights how the passion of fans can truly inspire change!
The full interview can be accessed on the LFL’s YouTube channel. We highly recommend watching ‘In the Legend’ on Paramount+ first to avoid any spoilers and fully appreciate the references made throughout. However, even if you choose to watch the interview first, Pierrin’s insights may ignite your interest in the series.
‘In the Legend’ faced the challenge of focusing on a select group of players rather than documenting every individual in the LFL. The series zeroed in on four central figures: Eika (M8), Selfmade (VITB), Boukada (GO), and Caliste (KCB). Pierrin made this editorial decision based on both objective and subjective factors, after meeting with all ten teams at the start of 2024 to form his perspective. In the case of Caliste, it became clear early on that he possessed a unique status, as Pierrin observed how he naturally attracted attention during filming. Despite Caliste’s impressive achievements, it was Selfmade who left a lasting impression on the director, as the series provides a deeper understanding of his complex yet endearing personality.
While Paramount+ managed to capture intimate moments with Eika by visiting his family home, a similar plan for Caliste unfortunately fell through. This remains Pierrin’s biggest regret, as he wished to showcase this personal facet of the player. However, respecting Caliste’s desire for privacy is crucial—perhaps there will be an opportunity in the future! As he transitions to the LEC, the prospect of a second season exploring the journeys of these four main characters would be highly welcomed.
With esports enthusiasts eager for more insights into their favorite teams, Paramount+ is set to thrill many with the debut of a documentary series in early January, following a year of deep immersion in the heart of the French League of Legends.
