Wednesday September 20, Charles III and his wife Camilla will be the guests of honor at a sumptuous meal, organized in Versailles. What are the rules in force? We take stock.
Welcoming a king is a logistical challenge, but also a protocol one. Principles must be respected. For example: you must not touch the sovereign. In 2004, Jacques Chirac touched the Queen’s shoulders, causing a scandal. For the state dinner planned at the Château de Versailles (Yvelines), the route is precise. “It’s a very simple route. They don’t have a lot of time. They will take the Gabriel staircase. (…) To get to the Hall of Mirrors”explains Laurent Salomé, director of the national museum of the Château de Versailles and the Trianon.
Proper attire required
The menu, proposed by France, takes into account dietary recommendations provided by the British Embassy. “He had already tried for the visit of Elizabeth II in 2014 to ban foie gras. Except that the chef at the Élysée had realized it”recalls the journalist from Point of view Thomas Pernette. During this dinner, guests must respect a few rules. Proper attire is required. It will be a long dress for women and a tuxedo for men.
