Beginning of the trial on the murderous attack of Halloween 2020 in Quebec

It is Monday, at the Quebec City courthouse, that the trial of Carl Girouard, the man accused of having murdered two people on Halloween 2020 in the streets of Old Quebec, will begin.

The procedures, which should last four weeks, aim in particular to assess the mental health of the accused, indicated to the To have to his lawyer, Pierre Gagnon.

The 25-year-old accused faces two charges of first degree murder and five charges of attempted murder. Two people (Suzanne Clermont and François Duchesne) perished by his hand, and five others were seriously injured.

The day after the tragedy, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) indicated that the killer’s actions had been premeditated. The man from the Laurentians had appeared in the streets of Old Quebec with a Japanese sword in order to attack people.

The work of the court must begin Monday with the selection of the jury which will have to decide in this case.
