The LR deputies are suffering from acute reunionitis. All day Tuesday, November 21, Éric Ciotti told his troops, we must wait to know in what state the text toughened by the Senate will come out of the law committee, just to see to what extent the Macronists unravel it and thus give the right arguments to vote against. The Republicans are also considering the idea of a motion of censure. Should we go that far? How many LR deputies are ready to sign for that? Not all, since some consider that we should only abstain on immigration law. “How can we justify derailing a popular text among right-wing voters?”laments a party deputy.

Gérald Darmanin tries to bring his majority together

The majority are also preparing for battle. Gérald Darmanin returned to see the Macronist deputies on Tuesday. The Minister of the Interior seems tired of criticism of a text which leans too far to the right and does not respect the values of Macronism. When MP Stella Dupont, from the left wing, was moved, Gérald Darmanin replied that he had no lesson in Macronism to receive. But its central message is the following: we must not offend the Republicans during committee work. Clearly, we must not reject everything that the Senate has voted to try to reach a compromise with the right, which promises to be complicated. A Macronist MP reminds us that we must not upset the majority either.

In any case, the Minister of the Interior is increasing discussions with parliamentarians to try to have a united majority. Tuesday, November 21, he received for lunch the members of “social friendship”, former members of the Socialist Party, to try to avoid an internal rebellion. One of the guests is convinced that a “path exists” even if it is “winding”. “Darmanin was extremely excellent” confides a deputy who is not a fan of the minister. On Wednesday, November 22, he continued with the deputies of the right wing, the former LR, who were absolutely not fazed by the Senate version. In short, Gérald Darmanin is still looking for ways to land his law without going through 49.3.
