The health crisis is also destabilizing the furniture sector by causing the prices of raw materials, and therefore furniture, to soar. A famous Swedish merchant has announced that he will increase his prices.

Unheard of: the Swedish brand Ikea has announced that it will increase its prices by 9% on average this year. “Wages are not increasing at the same speed as increases in the prices of consumer goods”, notes with regret a customer. Two months ago, however, the boss of the sign assured that there would be no increase.

If Ikea does an about-face, an entire sector is affected by the fallout from the pandemic. Near Compiègne (Oise), a sofa manufacturer has seen the price of its raw materials increase since the start of the health crisis. “The foam has increased by almost 25%”, he reports as an example. This increase in costs is notably linked to the increase in transport prices. However, some of the pieces come from Asia. In 2022, furniture prices could therefore experience a big surge.
