Montreal indie rock can rejoice. The group Laughing arrives with a joyful and delicious first album, Because It’s True. Coming from all over Canada and from various groups (Nap Eyes, Monomyth, Human Music and Fountain, but also the essential Pizza Bouquet, if that counts…), Laura Jeffery, Josh Salter, André Charles Thériault and Cole Woods offer a set inspired by the greatest pop-rock singer-songwriters of the last fifty years — can you guess which ones? We delight in this dozen or so very catchy, sometimes mischievous, always sparkling tracks. With the rockers of Laughing, we laugh at everything that life and others can put in our way. For example, we really like the impertinent and nonchalant side, very 2000s, of Narcissist Blues and the rougher, but just as tenderly cheeky, side of Don’t Carewhich sounds a bit country. In short, it’s nostalgic while being 2024, it’s well done and it’s intelligent… Everything we love!
