beauty | Collision between tractor-trailer and minivan leaves 2 dead and 9 injured

(Montreal) A head-on collision between a heavy truck and a minivan left two dead and nine injured in Beauce.

Emergency services were called to intervene shortly after 4 p.m. on Route 112, in the small municipality of Saint-Frédéric, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

The minivan was carrying six people, including children.

“Among the six people who were in the minivan, there are two people who were in critical condition. Unfortunately, the death of the man in his forties and a 12-year-old teenager has been confirmed (later in the evening),” said Sergeant Hélène St-Pierre, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

Two other people suffered serious injuries, but there is no longer a fear for their lives.

As for the five adults who were in the truck, they had no apparent injuries.

It was not immediately known what led to the collision. According to initial findings, the 53-foot truck was traveling eastbound while the minivan was traveling westbound during the impact.

“There are investigators and reconstructionists who went there to determine the causes and circumstances of the event. There is no hypothesis that is favored at the moment, ”said Sergeant St-Pierre.

Route 112 was closed in both directions between Route 276 in Saint-Frédéric and Route 173 in Vallée-Jonction for several hours to allow the police to analyze the scene.
