beauty | 80-year-old cyclist dies after accident with vehicle

(Saint-Joseph-De-Beauce) An 80-year-old cyclist lost his life in Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, Chaudière-Appalaches, on Sunday afternoon when he was hit by a car while trying to change of way.

The collision occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Route 173, which crosses the small municipality of 5,000 inhabitants.

According to initial information collected by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the vehicle and the cyclist were traveling in the same direction on the road in question shortly before the accident.

“It’s the cyclist who would have liked to change lanes before being caught. His death was unfortunately observed on the spot,” explained Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.

The spokesperson for the police force also specified that the 80-year-old man who died in this incident is a resident of Quebec.

Route 173 was closed for part of the afternoon on Sunday to allow SQ reconstructionists to analyze the scene.

The lanes were able to reopen around 6 p.m.
