(Beauceville) Heavy rains Saturday morning caused flooding in Beauceville, in Chaudière-Appalaches, damaging roads and forcing the evacuation of three properties in the municipality.
As of 3:30 p.m., only one property had still been evacuated, the city said in a message posted on its Facebook page.
The city confirmed in the message that 71 millimetres of rain fell in 90 minutes early Saturday morning. The “overflowing of pipes, ditches, tributaries” due to the rain caused the damage. “There was no flooding of the Chaudière River.”
Two landslides were reported, “including one for the cycle path in the 155 sectore street and one on the 92e street,” the City’s message says.
Municipal roads as well as roads belonging to the provincial Ministry of Transportation were damaged, the municipality of more than 6,000 residents said. “Most municipal roads (rows-streets-avenues) are reopened despite the damage present,” the message said.
Lambert Avenue remains closed to traffic, although local traffic is permitted in certain areas. Provincial roads 108 (alternating) and 173 are reopened.
“The municipal public works, fire safety and civil security teams have been deployed since 7:30 this morning (traffic, evacuations, emergency repairs, citizen services),” the municipality wrote.
Beauceville invites citizens who have suffered damage to fill out a damage report and those who have photos and videos to send them.
“The situation is recovering across our territory and immediate essential work is underway.”
