A two-year-old child died Monday morning after inflicting fatal injuries in a residence in Saint-Côme-Linière, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The police were called around 10:30 a.m. to assist the paramedics in a single-family home in the small municipality located about fifteen kilometers south of Saint-Georges, in Beauce.
A neighbor was the first to arrive on the scene and began resuscitation maneuvers before the arrival of the ambulances.
The toddler was injured with the cord of a blind installed in a window, according to information available The newspaper. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) refuses to confirm this thesis, for the moment.
“The child under five was taken to hospital where he was declared dead,” said SQ spokesperson Claude Doiron.
The victim is said to be the second in a blended family of three children, the youngest of whom is less than a year old.
Shock wave
The tragic events sent shock waves through the neighborhood. Several area residents were going about their business on Easter Monday when emergency services arrived on the scene.
“We saw the police take out the body of the little boy, says another neighbor. We suspected he was dead, his little legs weren’t moving. […] The mother was out in the street and she was crying and she was screaming. »
Another resident says the mood quickly changed on the short street. “It was a beautiful day, children were playing in the street and there the ambulances and firefighters arrived. We really don’t expect to see this right next to home. »
