Bayonne and its Dagourette House

Built at the beginning of the 17th century on the site of a former shipyard, Maison Dagourette is first and foremost a merchant’s house. Its vast ground floor is then dedicated to the warehouse of goods unloaded on the quay.

Became a convent then a hospital in the following century, the building now houses the Basque Museum and the history of Bayonne.

About twenty themed rooms are articulated on 3 levels revealing the multiple aspects of Basque culture: origins and language, funeral rites, rural life and architecture, domestic life and crafts, maritime and river activities, festivals and games, regional history.

The Dagourette House is classified “Monument“since 1991.
