After the scare of the first leg, Bayern Munich can breathe. Not very brilliant at the Stadio Olimpico, the Germans found color by crushing Lazio (3-0) in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League, Tuesday March 5. If the score is flattering for Thomas Tuchel’s men, the content is not really, the fault of a very sluggish first half hour where the Bavarian midfielder was muddled and uninspired.
But the reigning German champion was able to gain momentum, under the leadership of an excellent Jamal Musiala, involved in all of his team’s opportunities. Lazio folded little by little, then finally cracked just before half-time, on a ball extended with a header by Harry Kane behind a missed recovery from Thomas Muller (1-0, 39th).
A failing defense is costly for Lazio
A goal which loosened the German offensive desires, opening up a lot of space for the Bavarian wingers, which Leroy Sané was unable to take advantage of to double the advantage. Finally, it was the experienced Thomas Muller, on the lookout to deflect a shot from Matthijs de Ligt, who came to give Bayern Munich the advantage in both confrontations (2-0, 45th + 2) . In great difficulty in creation, the Italians never weighed on the meeting, and saw the score worsen on yet another second ball where Harry Kane beat an apathetic Laziali defense (3-0, 66th).
With this success, only the second in a month, Bayern Munich gives itself a breath of fresh air in a competition which could represent its last hope of a trophy this season, which is ten points behind Leverkusen in the league.
