The 21-year-old Edmonton native has been sidelined since early January due to symptoms of myocarditis, a heart condition he has suffered since contracting COVID-19.
“He is doing very well and he is on the way to being cured,” Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said during a press briefing on Saturday.
“He will still need some time, but the main risks to his heart are over. He has another doctor’s appointment in two weeks, but I guess he took the best road to recovery. »
Davies watched his teammates practice Friday.
Bayern said on January 5 that the fast left-back had contracted COVID-19, like several of his teammates. The club then clarified that Davies was isolating at home and that he was doing well.
Davies resumed training a week later, but his comeback was put on hold when Bayern announced on January 14 that tests showed the Canadian was suffering from signs of an inflamed heart muscle.
According to experts, myocarditis is a temporary and not very dangerous condition in the majority of cases.
Doctors detected Davies’ myocarditis during the follow-up exam that all players undergo once they recover from COVID-19.
The issue also prevented Davies from wearing the Canada jersey in the last three games of his qualifying run for the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
Canada leads the CONCACAF qualifying standings with a 7-0-4 record. The team is due to play three more games next month: in Costa Rica on March 23, at home against Jamaica on March 26 and in Panama on March 29.
