Bayern Munich denounced on its X account (ex-Twitter) racist insults suffered by Dayot Upamecano, after his expulsion during the Champions League match against Lazio (0-1), Wednesday February 14. These comments are absolutely vile. FC Bayern condemns them in the strongest terms, indicated the Bavarian club on the social network. Anyone making such comments cannot be a fan of the club. Support, Upa!”

The French international (17 caps, 2 goals) received a red card in the 67th minute of the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, for a very hard sole on Lazio player Gustav Isaksen. This fault led to a penalty, transformed by Ciro Immobile, scorer of the only goal of the match.

Shortly after the events, many Internet users flocked to Dayot Upamecano’s Instagram account to leave hateful comments, some of which were racist. The Frenchman is not the first player to suffer this endemic scourge. After the 2022 World Cup final lost by the Blues against Argentina (3-3, 2-4 on penalties), several players were targeted by this type of messages. Bayern had already, in the past, reported acts of racism concerning French international Kingsley Coman.
