Bay-Comeau | Search resumes to find a man who capsized from a rowboat

(Baie-Comeau) The search resumed Sunday morning, around 6 a.m., to find a man whose boat capsized the day before in Baie-Comeau on the North Shore.

Updated yesterday at 3:35 p.m.

The man in his thirties was part of a group of five people fishing in the Dallaire stream area when the tragedy occurred around 12:50 p.m. Saturday.

“There are four boats from the Sûreté du Québec which are on site and the divers are heading,” said Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), on Sunday morning.

The other four people, including two children, were all rescued on Saturday, but only one was discharged from hospital. However, there is no fear for their lives.

According to information gathered by the police, only the children were wearing their life jackets on board the boat.

The boat capsized for an undetermined reason, although the current seemed strong in the area when the emergency services of the MRC de Manicouagan were called to the scene shortly before 1 p.m.

On Saturday, wildlife officers also crisscrossed the body of water, without success, and the police searched the banks.

An SQ command post was to be established on site on Sunday.
