The territory of Bavaria is full of exquisite places, but also particularly heavy history secrets. It is in the Bavarian town of Berchtesgaden that Adolf Hitler took refuge, and built the famous Eagle’s Nest.

As early as the 1920s, Adolf Hitler made the city of Berchtesgaden, Germany, his favorite vacation destination. During World War II, the Führer built an entire Nazi headquarters. Almost a century later, the peaceful little resort of Berchtesgaden continues to be associated with this macabre period. “At the very top there was a swastika on this flag. It was erased in 1946“, says Klaus Satra, pointing to the station built by the Nazis, of which he is the new owner.

For the owner of this 200-meter building, the conservation of the station should last, for the sake of memory. “For me and for a lot of people here, it’s important to keep this, to show what happened in our history, in the last century.“, he says. It was after the Second World War that the first ski resorts appeared, at the request of the Americans who were stationed in the German city.
