Battery problems | Recalls at Audi and Jeep

Manufacturers Audi and Jeep have recently deployed various Canadian recall campaigns to correct electrical defects.

At Audi, 702 examples of the e-tron GT electric sedan (2022 to 2024) will have to make a stop at a dealership to correct a problem linked to the high voltage battery. The Transport Canada fact sheet detailing the recall specifies that its module could overheat and thus create a fire risk. The manufacturer urges owners to limit the maximum load to 80% while awaiting repairs. Dealers will inspect the battery and replace the affected module if necessary as an “interim measure”. “Advanced diagnostic software” will later be installed to monitor battery health.

On the Jeep side, a total of 14,038 Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022 to 2024) and Wrangler (2020 to 2024) are the subject of a recall campaign also concerning a fire risk linked to the high voltage battery. These plug-in hybrid models can catch fire, even when the ignition is turned off while stationary. Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, specifies in a press release that 13 cases of fire have been recorded in connection with this defect, the source of which has not been detailed. The manufacturer encourages owners of these vehicles to avoid recharging and to park them outside, far from buildings. A software update will be performed and the battery may be replaced at Stellantis’ expense. Note that this recall follows another recall which failed to correct the problem.
