Battery problem | Ford recalls nearly half a million cars

(New York) American car manufacturer Ford has launched a recall of nearly half a million cars affected by a battery charge control failure that could cause the driver to lose control.

Some 456,565 Bronco Sport models, a compact SUV, and Maverick, a pickup truck, are affected, according to a notice published Wednesday by the US Highway Safety Agency (NHTSA).

The Broncos with this defect were built between 2021 and 2024, while the Mavericks are from 2022 and 2023.

The possible malfunction of the charge control may prevent the driver from realizing that his battery is flat, warns the NHTSA.

Due to a lack of electricity, the warning lights no longer come on in the event of an emergency and the vehicle even threatens to no longer be able to move forward, “which increases the risk of an accident”, warns the agency.

Ford asks owners of the cars mentioned to go to a Ford dealership, who will adjust the battery control module, free of charge.

Vehicle recalls are quite common in the United States. In January 2021, Ford recalled around three million cars over an airbag problem, manufactured by the now-defunct Japanese company Takata.
