Kintoa pigs originally come from the “Pie Noir du Pays Basque” pig breed, an ancient and very hardy breed, capable of withstanding significant changes in climatic conditions. He was endangered and a few breeders wanted to save him in the 80s. A two-tone pig with a black head and rear, ideally spotted black also on the upper back.

AOP Kintoa provides free-range breeding and the most natural food

The pigs are raised in the open air on routes made up of woods, meadows and ferns in which they glean part of their daily food (grass, acorns, chestnuts, roots, etc.). In addition to their diet, a ration of cereals produced locally and without GMOs. According to the specifications of the AOP Kintoa, Bastien and Amaïa produce purebred heavy pigs Pie Noir from the Basque Country. This breed and this natural and traditional farming method give the meat a unique taste and marbling.
