Basque carriers could file for bankruptcy

“If you have it, a truck took it to you” summed up the slogan of a communication campaign a few years ago in support of truck drivers. Times have changed and due to rising fuel costs, many carriers are considering partially shutting down. They might even put their employees on partial unemployment. Caroline Auger, the general secretary of the organization of small and medium-sized road transport companies (OTRE) of the Adour countries, reports that adjustments and even bankruptcy filings are in sight in the sector. Faced with this unprecedented situation, theOTRE claimed a backup plan to the government.

Aeronautics also impacted

Two weeks after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, experts from the economic world maintain that the conflict will also impact the Basque Country. On the port of Bayonne the potential repercussion is 7% and in Soule the activity of aeronautical subcontractors has already decreased. The Spi Aéro company in Mauléon is already paying the price for the halt in the production of Russian planes. Concerns also point to the side of the Alkar group, in Mauléon.

Sébastien Carré, the general delegate of CPME-64, which brings together 1,600 companies in the Basque Country, ensures that the increase in energy prices does not help matters. He fears a lack of raw materials such as wood or electronic components. The CPME-64 fears an imminent slowdown in consumption.
