Isiah Kiner-Falefa pushed Cavan Biggio to the plate for the winning run in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 on Wednesday at Rogers Centre.
Kiner-Falefa hit a shot from Craig Kimbrel (4-2) against the wall in the outfield and Biggio was able to easily score from third base.
Justin Turner, who had three hits, led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Biggio replaced him as the backup runner and reached second base on an errant relay to first base to surprise him. He then went to third base on a sacrifice fly from Alejandro Kirk.
The victory went to the record of Yimi Garcia (2-0), who blanked the Orioles in the top of the ninth. Anthony Santander hit a home run for the Orioles (39-21), who have suffered only a third loss in their last 13 outings.
The Blue Jays (29-32) have won six of their last nine games. They had a 9-6 advantage in hits against the Orioles.
Both starting pitchers found their way after trouble in the second inning.
Santander hit a Jose Berrios spin ball an estimated 436 feet from home plate to open the scoring. For him it was a 12e circuit this season.
Cedric Mullins added a run when he drew a walk, stole second base and scored on a double by Ramon Urias.
The Blue Jays quickly responded at the end of the second inning. Albert Suarez walked George Springer, who advanced to third base on a Turner double. Springer scored on a sacrifice fly from Kirk and Turner crossed the plate on a single from Kiner-Falefa.
Berrios was replaced on the mound during the seventh inning. He allowed two runs, six hits and three walks.
For his part, Suarez allowed two runs, five hits and a walk in five innings.
