Baseball: Charles Leblanc shines in a loss against the Nationals

Quebecer Charles Leblanc is doing everything possible to convince the Marlins to make him a regular. He had two hits in Miami’s 5-3 loss to the Nationals on Saturday in Washington.

Left aside the day before, the Lavallois sent a clear message to manager Don Mattingly from the initial assault. The first batter sent into the scrum, Leblanc singled to right field before stealing second base. However, his three teammates who succeeded him were removed after kicking balls.

Leblanc added it in the third inning by reaching first base with a hit to a safe spot in center field. He was, however, the victim of a double play a few seconds later.

The Marlins had eight hits to the Nationals’ six, but lacked timing. Jerar Encarnacion drove in two runs in the fourth inning by stretching his arms, and Brian Anderson scored the only other run for his team on a productive single.

After a shaky start from Erick Fedde, the Nationals relievers offered only one hit in the last five innings of the game. Hunter Harvey (2-1) added the win to his record.

The hosts were carried by the long ball. Lane Thomas, Luke Voit, Victor Robles and Alex Call all hit a solo homer.

Jeff Brigham (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing long balls from Voit and Robles.

Red Sox humiliated at home

It was a long night at Fenway Park for Boston Red Sox fans, who saw their favorites beaten 9-0 by the Kansas City Royals.

While Brady Singer (9-4) left nothing for the hosts’ hitters, Rich Hill (7-7) got bullied by the Missouri team.

The Red Sox starting pitcher allowed eight hits and four earned runs in four and two-thirds innings. He was unable to contain MJ Melendez, Salvador Perez and Bobby Witt, all of them productive singles, as well as Vinnie Pasquantino, who hit a one-run double.

Melendez had no mercy for the opposing gunners. He hit three hits, drove in two runs and crossed the plate four times. Pasquantino (three hits, three RBIs) and Witt (two hits, two RBIs) also gave Alex Cora’s men headaches.
