Bas-Saint-Laurent | Two people die in road accident

(Montreal) Two people lost their lives in a road accident in Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac, in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Thursday afternoon.

Two vehicles collided around 2:15 p.m. on Route 232 near rue de la Seigneurie. The vehicle traveling west would have found itself in the opposite lane at the exit of a curve before hitting the other vehicle, explained the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Hélène St-Pierre.

Three people were seriously injured and were transported by ambulance. Two of them succumbed to their injuries in hospital. It is a septuagenarian and an octogenarian from the region, who were the passengers on board one of the vehicles.

Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

An SQ collision enforcement officer will be in charge of the investigation.

In the evening, Route 232 remained closed in both directions and a detour had been put in place.
