The body of a person was found in the rubble of a house that caught fire in the night from Friday to Saturday in Notre-Dame-du-Portage, in Bas-Saint-Laurent.
First aid was dispatched around 3 a.m. Saturday on the river road, a small road that runs along the St. Lawrence, in Notre-Dame-du-Portage, west of Rivière-du-Loup.
The police officers of the MRC of Rivière-du-Loup moved to the scene. According to initial information, a single man lived in the burned residence. So far, this man “could not be contacted or located by the police,” said Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
A person’s body was discovered in the rubble of the house. Steps are being taken to identify him.
The causes of the fire were not known at the time these lines were written.
The investigation is the responsibility of investigators from the Major Crimes Investigation Division of Rimouski.
