Bas-Saint-Laurent | 28-year-old man dies after swerving on mountain bike

A 28-year-old man died Sunday in Packington, Bas-Saint-Laurent, after losing control of his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in a swerve. The Sûreté du Québec has opened an investigation.

It was around 7 a.m., Sunday morning, that the first calls were made to the emergency services for a “swerve followed by an ATV overturn” having occurred on the Saint-Benoît road. Workers had just discovered the body of the inanimate victim on the ground.

According to the SQ, which still does not know the exact circumstances of this case, the man was alone at the time of the events. It is also “possible that the exit from the road occurred several hours before the discovery of the body”, probably during the night, indicated agent Ève Brochu-Joubert.

The victim, originally from Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac, was rushed to a hospital center, where he was declared dead.

An investigation has been opened to shed light on this event. Patrol officers trained in collision investigation were sent to the scene at the start of the day.
