(Montreal) A 12-year-old girl was fighting for her life in hospital on Wednesday evening, hours after being hit by a car in Matane, in Bas-Saint-Laurent.
The collision occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Saint-Jérôme Avenue.
“According to our first information collected, the vehicle traveling on Saint-Jérôme Avenue would have hit the young girl, who was trying to cross the street where unfortunately there was no crosspiece for this purpose,” explained the sergeant. Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The child was taken to hospital, where fears for her life remained four hours after the accident.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was also taken to hospital for nervous shock. She had no apparent injuries.
“We have a collision scene reconstructionist who was to go to the scene to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding this event,” said the spokesperson for the SQ.
Alcohol and speed seemed excluded from the scenarios studied at the start of the investigation.
Around 8:10 p.m., Saint-Jérôme Avenue was still closed, in both directions, between the Promenade des Capitaines and Otis Street.
The SQ investigation is continuing.
