Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts sent a letter to the NFL and the Washington team asking what action will be taken after a barrier falters under the weight of fans on Sunday. An “almost tragic” incident, he writes.
The scene took place at FedExField after the game between the Eagles and the Washington team. Just before Jalen Hurts entered the tunnel to exit the pitch, one of the metal barriers collapsed under the weight of the fans celebrating their team’s 20-16 victory.
About ten supporters fell from a few meters with the barrier. The quarterback managed to narrowly avoid him. A photographer, kneeling to take pictures of the player, was hit hard and had difficulty getting up.
“As you know, many people, including fans, members of the media and myself, were placed in a dangerous situation when portions of the FedExField tunnel collapsed,” he wrote in his letter, made public by the journalist of Washington post Nicki Jhabvala, Tuesday afternoon.
“While I was able to prevent the barrier from crashing into me, it was not the same for others who might suffer injuries,” he added.
In shock, Hurts still leaned over to help one of the men up. Olympian calm, he agreed to discuss and take pictures with some fans who had fallen. He then greeted everyone before stepping back.
“Even though I have remained calm, I understand the severity of what has happened and I am extremely concerned for the well-being of fans and the media. I would like to know what the NFL and the Washington football team are doing to prevent this from happening again in the future. ”
“NFL resources and organizations are ensuring our safety in playing this physical sport, but what happened on Sunday puts both fans and players at unnecessary risk long after the final whistle. ”
“I look forward to hearing from you on this subject,” he concluded.
