France Bleu Provence is a partner of the Fête de la Barquette, a tribute to the emblematic boats of the harbor of Marseille.
Once a year, during Heritage Daysthis event organized by the nautical society of MACT in the Old Port of Marseille, highlights the Barquettes Marseillaises and their owners who maintain their vessels with passion. Passion, at the cost of the time spent and the financial investment, necessary for the maintenance of the boats for their safeguard.
The Marseille Barquette
Used at all times, for small fishing or for family leisure. Many carpenters have allowed the realization of these small boats between 5 and 9 meters. The carpenters from Naples modified the manufacturing technique and democratized these boats. The manufacturing technique is done according to a template, jealously kept secret by each carpenter. The particularity of these boats is to be pointed at the front and at the rear, and to be thus adapted to the waves of the Mediterranean, hence the term pointed, which is only used in the Var. Formerly only moved by oar or sail, they have been motorized, making the rigging disappear, and making it possible to overcome certain weather hazards. Nowadays, enthusiasts put the sails back on their boats and once again experience that magical moment when the engine is cut and only the sounds of the wind and the sea come to disturb the silence. The most traditional rigs are Latin, but there are also houari, third, auric and sprit rigs. The current owners, who come from all strata of society, still use it either for fishing or for family outings.
The Barquette Festival allows you to see these trays and discuss with their owners. In a friendly atmosphere, the boats will sail in the harbor of Marseille or stay at the quay to enjoy Provençal folk entertainment. Exhibitions will also be present on the quays. The most convivial moment will undoubtedly be the immediate boarding of the public, a moment of sharing and exchange, while visiting the old port and enjoying the sea view.
Free entry, without reservation possible, places limited by the number of boats and their boarding capacity. Boarding for able-bodied people only and autonomous children under the responsibility of the parents. Compulsory child vest.
