Barely released, the “stone thug” from Estrie strikes again

His actions could earn him the nickname “stone thug”. An incorrigible individual arrested two weeks ago for throwing rocks into the windshields of half a dozen motorists did it again a few hours after his release, in Estrie.

For weeks, drivers traveling on Chemin Saint-Catherine in Sherbrooke did so at their own risk: one individual seemed to take pleasure in throwing large rocks into the windshields of vehicles chosen at random.

Since the media coverage of the case, around fifty motorists have reported to the authorities having received rocks on their cars in the area.

The police in the region therefore mobilized to catch the famous rock thrower.

They hit the nail on the head two weeks ago, when a patrol officer intercepted the suspect, based in particular on the description of his vehicle.

During the intervention, a driver stopped to report to the police officer that the intercepted driver had just thrown a rock at his windshield on the way.

The suspect was therefore arrested immediately. No less than 75 counts of armed assault and mischief, in particular, were brought against Jonathan Corriveau, 44, at the Sherbrooke courthouse.

Surprisingly, the forty-year-old was released on conditions Monday morning. It only took a few hours for the “rock thug” to strike again. A few hours after his release, during the evening of Monday, he threw a rock into the windshield of a motorist who was driving on Chemin Sainte-Catherine.

“The windshield even shattered towards the inside of the passenger compartment. Fortunately the driver was not injured,” said agent Martin Carrier, spokesperson for the Sherbrooke police.

As the modus operandi used by the criminal was familiar to say the least, we were quickly able to link Jonathan Corriveau to this event. The “stone thug” was therefore arrested once again and was to appear Wednesday at the Sherbrooke courthouse, on new charges of mischief and armed assault.
