Relations were already very tense between Ousmane Dembélé and Barça, currently struggling in La Liga. They reached the point of no return on Thursday, January 20.

Mateu Alemany, in charge of the sporting direction of Barça, announced it on the social networks of the Blaugrana club by stating: “It is January 20 and it seems obvious to us that the player does not count on Barça and is not committed to Barça’s sports project. Under these conditions, we therefore told him and his agents that he must leave immediately“.

The leader believes that the club have made every effort to renew Dembélé. “With Ousmane, with his agents, we started discussions in July. We spoke for six or seven months, Barça made several offers for the player to stay with us, offers which were refused by his agents”, he said.

Tired of procrastination about his future, the Catalan management has therefore marked the end of an adventure which will never have really started for the Frenchman, who arrived in 2017. Often injured, criticized on several occasions for his delays or his inconstancy, the tricolor international will certainly have shone, but intermittently and too little.

FC Barcelona’s decision comes as Xavi had already given the Frenchman an ultimatum a few days ago. This time, Alemany signaled the end of the game: “We don’t want to have players with us who aren’t involved in our project and who don’t want to be at Barca. And so we don’t want to call him up anymore, as a result of everything we’ve talked about. Whoever decides to the end is the coach and he has our full support.”
