Barbasol Championship | Canadian Adam Svensson takes the lead

(Nicholasville) Canadian Adam Svensson returned a card of 62 to 10 under par on Thursday, topping the first day of the Barbasol Championship, a tournament that counts for the North American Golf Tour (PGA).

Svensson, ranked 158e also had seven birdies and a single bogey at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, tying the tournament record.

“I hit well, putted well and it all came together,” said the 28-year-old. “I feel like it’s going really well.”

The Portuguese Ricardo Gouveia returned a card of 64, thus coming in second place with the French Robin Roussel.

Germany’s Matti Schmid, Colombia’s Camilo Villegas, England’s David Skinns and Americans Trey Mullinax, Michael Kim, Max McGreevy, Mark Hubbard and Bo Van Pelt turned in cards of 65.

For the first time, this tournament is part of the American PGA circuit and European DP World Tour, just like the Scottish Open which started on Thursday and which is attended by most of the best players in the world before the start of the British Open, the week next to St Andrews.
