A Thai “noodle shop” has set up on rue Chabot, almost at the corner of Mont-Royal. But here, no pad thai or pad see ew. Chita and Nim (Chitakone Phommavongxay and Siriluksamee Rangthong, their full name), who already own the excellent Thammada, on Avenue Bernard, wanted to introduce lesser-known specialties from the streets of Bangkok.
The name of the restaurant was supposed to be Bang Rak, in homage to a vibrant district of the capital, but the couple ultimately opted for Bangluck, which they considered a little softer to pronounce. What’s also sweet here is the addition. You’ll pay around $18 for a generous noodle meal bowl with meats and toppings.

There are also “sides” for $9 if your appetite is stronger (or lighter!). The little curried chicken puffs, which may remind you of an Indian samosa, are particularly tasty. The shrimp toasts are very popular.
The couple, also co-owners of the essential Pichai, had initially considered opening a second Thammada. The financial means of a large part of Quebecers being what they are, in these times, Chita and Nim therefore preferred a more accessible formula, which allows Montrealers to have a quality lunch or dinner without breaking the bank. . To drink, there are delicious homemade frozen drinks and beer, among others.

Nim, born in Thailand, insists that virtually everything is cooked on site, including the delicious dipping sauces that make all the difference. She would love to bottle these condiments for people who want to take some home. For now, the restaurant’s grocery section holds a few non-perishable ingredients, like the iconic little boxes of Maesri brand curry, colorful tableware and other pretty things.
