They usually don’t have the luster of presidential elections, but this year’s midterm elections in the United States take on special significance. On November 8, 39 governorships will be at stake, as will the 435 seats in the House of Representatives. But it’s on the Senate, where 36 of the 100 seats will be contested, that all eyes will be on: a single post won by the Republicans would be enough to remove the majority from the Democrats, and the Upper House could thus obstruct the policies of the president. Joe Biden.
Decisive, next week’s vote will follow tight races, colored both by concrete local issues and by strong national concerns. Until then, we are trying to see more clearly with our correspondent passing through Florida.
