To everyone’s surprise and despite the dissent of some African countries, nearly 200 delegations from around the world to attend COP15 finally agreed in the early hours of Monday on a global framework to protect biodiversity. By 2030, states will have to protect 30% of their natural terrestrial and marine environments. In addition to this historic target, what should we retain from the Kunming-Montreal global framework on biodiversity and what challenges does the implementation of such an agreement represent?
