All that for this. While the French Cédric Doumbè and Baissangour “Baki” Chamsoudinov scrapped in the third round of a highly anticipated fight, Thursday March 7 at the Accor Arena, victory went to the fighter of Chechen origin… thanks to a splinter , or a piece of glass. Getting up after being pushed to the side of the cage by his opponent, Doumbè was in fact undermined by a slight thorn stuck in one of his toes.

Unable to put his foot down, he saw the referee stop the match, to his great dismay. And therefore hand the victory to “Baki”, in total confusion. A conclusion far removed from Doumbè’s last fight, which ended with a spectacular knockout after nine seconds against Jordan Zébo at the end of September. Also far from the aspirations of a white-hot audience for this French MMA summit counting for the Professional Fighters League (PFL), which ended amid boos.

I wanted to see a fight of a mentally ill person, not a fight that ends like that!”, regretted Cédric Doumbè as soon as this imbroglio was complete. And the French fighter gave his version of the facts, further inflaming the already very hot audience at Bercy: “I felt a piece of glass, or wood, in my left big toe, I asked the referee if we couldn’t stop”a request refused. “I told him, ‘OK, let’s continue’continued Doumbè. I didn’t understand anything, the referee stopped the fight (…) If we have to involve someone (sic), it’s not him [“Baki”]he’s the referee.”

A revenge soon?

“It’s not the way I wanted to win, but the unexpected is part of the fight”, replied his 22-year-old opponent. And in this sport where direct invective (the famous trashtalking) are legion, he invited Doumbè to challenge him again “in a bigger room”. It wouldn’t really have any trouble filling up, since the nearly 20,000 seats at the Accor Arena were sold out in less than 20 minutes. Doumbè, a former kickboxing specialist beaten for the first time in PFL after five victories, will be keen to get back on track.
