Unfortunately, a heavyweight could not avoid it at the same time.

The collision occurred Wednesday evening, around 6 p.m., on Route 138, which leads to Highway 20 West, in the borough of Lachine.

“The police officers from the Montreal highway station were called to go to kilometer 2 of Route 138, in the direction of Highway 20, for a collision between two vehicles, including a 53-foot truck,” said Sergeant Marythé Bolduc, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The truck driver was not injured, but the same cannot be said for the man who was driving the other vehicle.

“We are talking about a septuagenarian who was transported to a hospital in the region in critical condition. Unfortunately, at the present time, we fear for his life,” said Sergeant Bolduc.

The cause of the accident remains to be validated by the Sûreté du Québec investigation.

This section of Route 138 to Highway 20 West has been closed to traffic to allow the police to do their job. Motorists were invited to take a detour via the service road at 1D av.

The SQ investigation is continuing.
