At Comic-Con in San Diego, Dwight Johnson made a spectacular entrance as the villainous hero of the DC Comics stable, whose arrival on the big screen took more than a decade to materialize. “The DC Universe will never be the same again! “Thundered the former wrestler before explaining that this adventure is for him the realization of a dream. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Black Panther: Long Live Wakanda)

In 2018, Black Panther marked the spirits to the point of being cited for the Oscars in the category of best film, an honor rarely bestowed on this kind of blockbuster. The unexpected death of Chadwick Boseman, the interpreter of T’Challa, of course created a shock wave in 2020, both with the production team and the public. Also Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Creed), who signed the first opus, he chose to build a story around the disappearance of T’Challa, as a form of homage, rather than calling on another actor. Black Panther – Wakanda Forever is the 30e feature film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the last of Phase 4. In theaters November 11.

Bros (chums)

Billy Eichner is an actor to whom we also owe the creation of the series Funny or Die’s Billy on the Street. With Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors), who is also directing this film, the actor wrote the screenplay for this cheerful romantic comedy which is said to be the first of its kind produced by a major studio. It is also specified that apart from Debra Messing and Kristin Chenoweth, two allies of the community, the distribution of this feature film is entirely made up of LGBTQ + actors, among whom, in addition to Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane in the main roles, we find Bowen Yang and Harvey Feinstein. The Toronto festival will feature Bros world premiere. In theaters September 30.

Daniel Craig is the star of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mysterya film by Rian Johnson.

Even before the release of Knives Out (At loggerheads) in 2019, filmmaker Rian Johnson said that if successful, he intended to craft a new standalone episode, built around Benoit Blanc, the investigator character played by Daniel Craig, much like the Agatha Christie used to do with Hercule Poirot. In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a whole new distribution thus surrounds the former interpreter of James Bond. Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn and Leslie Odom Jr. are part of a thriller whose plot this time takes place in Greece. After a launch at the Toronto festival, Netflix plans to drop the feature film on its platform on December 23.

I Wanna Dance with Somebodydirected by Kasi Lemmons, traces the life of singer Whitney Houston.

After Judy Garland, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, to name only the divas whose lives have been brought to the big screen recently, it is now Whitney Houston’s turn to be entitled to her biofilm. British actress Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Master of None) was cast as the Grammy-winning singer, whose life tragically ended 10 years ago at the age of 48. Director Kasi Lemmons (Harriet) brings to the screen a screenplay written by Anthony McCarten, to whom we owe in particular that of Bohemian Rhapsody. Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie and Bria Danielle Singleton camp there intimates of the star, in a film whose title evokes one of his most famous hits. In theaters December 21.

Tom Hanks stars in the film A Man Called Otto, directed by Marc Forster. This film is a remake of the Swedish film A Man Called Ove.

It will be interesting to see what reception the public will give to this American adaptation of the Swedish hit novel by Fredrik Backman, which has already been adapted for the cinema thanks to Hannes Holm, a compatriot of the author. In 2017, A Man Called Ove had even slipped into the Oscars among the five finalists in the category of best foreign language film (he was also cited thanks to his make-up). Renamed Otto, the gruff mature man at the heart of the story will this time be played by Tom Hanks. The veteran will undoubtedly pull out of the game in the role of this inconsolable widower who gradually relearns life in society when a young family settles in his neighborhood. Marc Forster, whose eclectic filmography ranges from Monster’s Ball at World War ZPassing by Finding Neverland and Quantum of Solaceis at the helm of this comedy-drama that we plan to hit theaters this holiday season.

Pinocchio

It’s a safe bet that this imposing production, directed by Robert Zemeckis (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump), is in a very Disney tradition, like all the new versions of classic cartoons produced by the famous studio. This Pinocchio in live action, the screenplay of which was written by Chris Weitz (he had done similar work for Cinderella), is directly inspired by the second animated feature film from Disney studios, released in 1940. Tom Hanks plays the puppeteer Geppetto, in a film where we also find Cynthia Erivo, as well as the voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth , Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lorraine Bracco. On Disney+ September 8.

Ticket to Paradise (ticket to paradise)

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are reunited on the big screen, six years later Money Monster (Jodie Foster), thanks to a romantic comedy directed by Ol Parker (Mama Mia! Here We Go Again). In Ticket to Paradise, the two superstars play a woman and a man who once formed a couple who, despite their differences, intend to intervene with their daughter (Kaitlyn Dever). These parents will try to prevent the latter, about to get married, from making the same mistake as them 25 years earlier. Will the notoriety of the two stars be enough to propel this production to the heights of the box office? Reply October 21.

The Woman King (The Woman King)

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, The Old Guard), this historical drama evokes an unknown page in the history of Africa. Viola Davis embodies General Nanisca who, at the end of the 19th centurye century, led the Dahomey Amazons, an all-female regiment, in their bitter struggle against the French colonists. From a screenplay written by Dana Stevens (Fatherhood) from a story elaborated by the actress Maria Bello (A History of Violence), The Woman King also stars Lashana Lynch, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and John Boyega. The feature film will premiere at the Toronto festival before hitting theaters across North America on September 16.
