Amazon Prime Video continues its development in France with the announcement of the production of new French fiction. If, after “Totems”, we are soon expecting “Miskina” or even “Greek salad”, series already in production, the platform has just announced the creation of a new French series, “Alphonse”. A romantic comedy in six 60-minute episodes, embodied by Jean Dujardin transformed thanks to a very sexy full beard and directed by Nicolas Bedos, available on Prime Video worldwide from November 2023. The director of “La Belle époque” passes thus for the first time on the small screen, and will find the star of “OSS 117: Red alert in Black Africa” for this story of a Parisian gentleman who seeks to satisfy all the wishes of the women who cross his path. Nathalie Péchalat will appreciate: it’s Jean Dujardin himself who had this idea! Also in the cast: Pierre Arditi (already in “La Belle Epoque”) Charlotte Gainsbourg and Nicole Garcia.
A provocative and intriguing comedy
And here is how Nicolas Bedos managed the tour de force of selling this project to the American giant: “Alphonse will be a colorful series carried by a great cast, with an original story tackling the relationship between men and women in a which should find some resonance in today’s world.” Thomas Dubois, head of original productions for Prime Video in France, adds that “it will be a comedy that will make the public laugh, but which will also be provocative and intriguing, and which will say things about the way in which men and women interact, as well as on the passage of time. The series will have a very strong narrative arc. Nicolas Bedos is able to combine all this with style, he has his own visual and aesthetic signature, it is a real pleasure to work with him. The entire Amazon team is also very happy to be working with Jean Dujardin.” So this is a happy marriage… and one which visibly amuses the two friends who never stop sharing their shooting photos on their Instagram accounts. While waiting for this series which promises to be most entertaining, fans of dark rooms will soon have an appointment with the film “Mascarade” by Nicolas Bedos, where the latter finds Pierre Niney, another traveling companion of OSS 117.
