The UFC-Que Choisir association attacks Wednesday, June 15 Back Market, the first platform for refurbished devices in France. The association criticizes him for displaying the prices of new items on his site, while selling second-hand.

Some sites offer refurbished items, such as a used phone, but in good condition, sold for less. This market was up 15% in 2021. On Wednesday June 15, certain practices of Back Market, the main French platform specializing in the resale of electronic objects refurbished, which connects sellers and buyers, are denounced by the UFC-Que Choisir. The consumer association aims in particular to compare the site between the price of new and reconditioned. Thus, a vacuum cleaner sold for 89 euros is opposed to its original price of 159 euros.

“To attract you even more, we will tell you that there is a reduction, that it is -34%, -50% (…) in reality, there is no promotion, no reduction. is simply explaining to you that the second-hand product, which you are going to buy, is cheaper than the new one”, denounces Raphaël Bartlomé, legal director of UFC-Que Choisir. For Back Market, the price of new is information to help customers make their choice.
